From Lewes District Council

We want to say a HUGE thank you to the Aquanauts Dive Club from Kingston-upon-Thames!
They organised a shore-based SCUBA dive from Newhaven’s West Beach this past weekend, along with a fantastic beach clean where they collected 20 bags of litter, and all whilst observing social distancing guidelines.

It’s fantastic to see a group from outside the area making the most of our beautiful Sussex coast, enjoying and respecting the environment, and going out of their way to help keep it clean and safe for us humans as well as our diverse wildlife.

Andy from the Aquanauts Dive Club said “As SCUBA divers, we are passionate about protecting the marine environment, so when we can visit the Sussex Coast and combine our love of diving with clearing up the beach for everyone to enjoy, it’s a great feeling. We will definitely be back soon.” and Glen (owner of the Newhaven SCUBA Centre) added “I think it’s brilliant when divers pull together and do something like this that benefits the environment and the local community.” Congratulations to the Aquanauts on a fun and positive day of socially distanced environmental action!

If you’d like to get involved with your own litter picks, either in a group (whilst observing social distancing of course) or on your own when you go for a walk, drop us a message. We can provide litter picking equipment and advice to help you get started.
