First Aid Basics in partnership with Aquanaut are pleased to announce the launch of our accredited Mental Health Awareness Course.
As divers many of us have experienced anxiety or felt low before or after a dive. We may have seen a fellow diver unable to get full enjoyment from their dive as they struggle with low mood and internal thoughts. We want to help but we are unsure how, or we are worried we will make matters worse or be seen as interfering.
This same scenario is often seen in the workplace when performance is affected, tasks appear overwhelming or colleagues may just not seem themselves

Our lead instructor has over 20 years experience in Occupational Health and has supported businesses, managers, and individuals with all aspects of Mental Health and wellbeing.
Alongside our First Aid specific company First Aid Basics, the Aquanaut Team all have actual extensive experience teaching the EFR courses in both diving and workplace environments. Our focus is not just to tick a box to fulfill a course pre-requisite.
EFR Mental Health Awareness Course Description
Like our First Aid Courses that “give the confidence to care”, so does this course. This course will create awareness in
- Mental health and the factors affecting mental wellbeing.
- The signs and symptoms of the most common mental health disorders.
- The way in which stigma and discrimination can hinder recovery.
- How to support people experiencing mental distress.
- Ways of improving your own resilience and mental wellbeing.
The course is practical and will enable you to feel more confident to support your fellow colleague or diver. Our instructor’s approach enables a secure environment for participation and discussion and gives practical examples from their experience.
The EFR Mental Health Awareness course takes 3.5 to 4 hours depending on break length and any additional material to be added, for example, your current in house services.
