On May 30th, Kingston University SAC and Kingston University Student Union Volunteers are embarking on a Thames River Clean project in Kingston and we need YOUR HELP!
What can you do to help?
We need volunteers for all sorts of activities including:
- Divers (must be PADI Rescue Diver, BSAC Sport Diver / equivalent with insurance and medical)
- Surface support for pulling the rubbish out
- Surface support collecting donations for the RNLI from passers by
- …… and much much more.
If you could give up a few hours during the day please contact us at the shop and let us know when you can help and what you can do!
Last year at the event over 4 tonnes of debris was removed from the Thames and the haul included:
- 105 Shopping Trolleys
- 35 skateboards
- 388 bottles
- 244 glasses
- 1 stove
- and 3 coconuts!
The day was an amazing success, with a great spirit of camaraderie. It was fantastic to see everyone working together to make such a difference to the environment.
The event was the brainchild of Aquanaut employee and former Kingston University Student Chris Elliott who wanted to find a way for scuba divers could contribute to and give back to their community.
The project was supported by Thames 21, the RNLI who came along and lent a hand, and various other Kingston University sport participants. The project also supported PADI’s Project Aware current campaign ‘Dive against Debris’.
