Welcome to the Aquanaut Scuba and Amphibian Scuba pages! We’d like to introduce ourselves and the services we can offer.

Aquanaut Scuba has been owned and operated by Ian and Lynne Clafton for over 10 years and, along with their team, they have great expertise and experience in offering the best service in the dive industry. Aquanaut is located in Kingston on Thames, with easy access to Norbiton rail station as well as west and central London via the nearby A3.

Aquanaut is not a centre that concentrates purely on volume, our focus is on delivering a highly knowledgeable, quality, personal service, giving you the right advice to help you make the right purchasing and training decisions to reach your ultimate in-water goals.

In February 2019 Ian and Lynne purchased Amphibian Sports from James Deane. Amphibian has been at the centre of the South East London dive community for over 30 years. With our passion for individual service we intend to build on Amphibian’s reputation and success and develop the business even further to serve more happy divers!

Dive Training

Whether it’s been a while since you were in the water, you are thinking about going pro or would like a little taste of the dark side with some technical diving, Aquanaut and Amphibian are your one stop shops for dive training in South London.

We are a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre and 5 Star Dive Centre respectively. Our extraordinarily talented and dedicated instructor team is vastly experienced in catering to every skill level and offering the best in tailored courses.

We run weekly pool evenings at The Malden Centre in New Malden on Wednesday and at Putney Leisure Centre on Fridays; both evenings run from 7:45pm to 10:00pm. During these evening pool sessions we offer confined sessions for the PADI Open Water Course, Discover Scuba Diving sessions for those who have never dived before, as well as the PADI ReActivate for those who haven’t dived in a while, and dry suit training. Qualified divers are also welcome to book in and come and ‘bubble’.

For our open water courses we use a mix of inland dive sites depending on the course requirements. For PADI Open Water Course certifying dives, PADI Rescue Diver course and the first day of the PADI Advanced Open Water course we use Wraysbury Dive Centre, Middlesex.

If we need to get a bit of depth for Advanced Open Water, Deep Diver courses or technical courses we go a little further afield and use either the National Diving & Activity Centre in Chepstow, Vobster Quay in Sommerset or Stoney Cove in Leicestershire.

We can also offer course completion overseas. We run trips to Menorca 2-3 times a year to dive with our partners at Blue Dive Menorca. We also have contacts and can run trips to Grand Canaria, Malta and the Red Sea. We can organise for you to complete a course on one of our scheduled group trips, or for a more bespoke service why not let us organise a private trip for you lead by one of our experienced instructors with an itinerary to suit you?

In addition to the core PADI courses we also offer a wide range of PADI Speciality courses to expand your diving knowledge and experience different aspects of diving. Speciality courses offered include:

Dive Retail

Both of our stores stock an extensive range of diving and snorkelling equipment, catering for adults and children, divers and snorkellers. Our Online Shop features most of our actual shop stock and is being updated daily, so keep checking in to buy online. You can choose to collect from either Aquanaut or Amphibian depending on your preference. If you see something on the online store you would like to try on or see in person, give your preferred store a call and we’ll make sure we have it at your desired location.

We stock masks, fins, snorkels, BCDs, regulators, wet suits, dive bags, dive computers and numerous clips and accessories. Our Suit Centre has over 40 drysuits in stock, we can also measure you up for a bespoke drysuit as well. We stock most major scuba brands, and if we don’t have it in stock we can almost certainly order it in for you, just ask!

Both locations offer full range of fills, air, nitrox and trimix. If you require nitrox or trimix we would appreciate if you could leave it with us at least over night so we can get the mix just right. 300 bar Air and Nitrox fills are available on site at Aquanaut and very soon at Amphibian. Kit rental can also be arranged through the shops.

Dive Trips & Travel

We love to travel, whether it’s in the UK or overseas we’re always on the move! We have run trips to the Red Sea, Scapa Flow, Iceland, the Farnes, Menorca and the Philippines to name a few.

We provide a variety of trips throughout the year, both overseas and UK, so whether you want to escape for a weekend, or join a more ambitious long haul adventure, we can guarantee you will be surrounded by similarly enthusiastic dive buddies.

We run all of our trips jointly across both shops, this brings a diverse group of people together with a common love of diving. Whatever kind of diving gets you going we have trips to suit.

Equipment Servicing

We pride ourselves on offering reliable equipment servicing, delivering on time. Both Aquanaut and Amphibian service equipment in house so there is no third party for us to deal with. We service all major brands, there’s almost nothing we can’t take apart and get working again! Services offered include:

  • Cylinder testing and O2 cleaning (we are fully IDEST accredited)
  • Regulator servicing
  • Air Fills
  • Nitrox Fills
  • Trimix Fills
  • 100% O2 Fills
  • BCD Servicing
  • Dive computer/watch battery replacements
  • Drysuit repairs
  • Any custom kit you need, we can get made up
  • We also make a great cup of tea!

If you need anything else, please contact us and we’ll see if we can help you out.

Note: You must have your certificate cards with you for any gas fills. NO Cards NO Gas.  Large quantities of gas must be pre-booked to ensure we have enough supply if we don’t then we will need to order it in which will take one working day, so pre-plan your gas plan!

We work on a two week turn around for servicing on site, except at busy times this may increase.  Arrangements can be made if you need equipment serviced quickly, please be aware a rush charge will apply, call us to find out availability.
